  • 2 drams benzoin tincture
Top notes: orange blossom
Middle notes: clove, jasmine, rose
Base notes: benzoin, civet, vanilla, patchouli, tolu, ambergris, vetiver

Perfumer's Recipe Sheet for "Egyptian Lotus" (1 oz / 30 mL)
Ingredients for 1 ounce (30 mL) of perfume:
  • Jasmine essence: 13.47 mL
  • Patchouli extract: 1.26 mL
  • Orange flower essence: 3.37 mL
  • Vanilla tincture: 3.37 mL
  • Civet tincture: 3.37 mL
  • Rose essence: 1.68 mL
  • Clove oil: 1.68 mL
  • Benzoin tincture: 1.68 mL

Directions for Preparing the Perfume:
Combine Floral and Base Notes:

Mix the Jasmine essence, Orange flower essence, and Rose essence in a clean glass container. These essences will form the floral heart of the perfume.

Add the Exotic and Earthy Notes:

Add Patchouli extract, Vanilla tincture, and Civet tincture to the mixture. These ingredients will introduce depth, warmth, and complexity to the fragrance.

Incorporate the Spices and Resins:

Add Clove oil and Benzoin tincture. The clove oil will contribute a spicy, aromatic edge, while the benzoin tincture will offer a resinous sweetness and a balsamic note.

Maceration:

Let the mixture macerate in a well-sealed glass container for 7-14 days, shaking occasionally. This will allow the ingredients to blend and develop fully.

Filter:

If necessary, strain the perfume through a fine mesh or cheesecloth to remove any sediment or undissolved materials.

Bottle:

Transfer the perfume into a 1-ounce (30 mL) glass perfume bottle.

Versions:
Extrait (Concentrated) Version:
This version uses the above recipe as-is. Extraits are typically more concentrated, with a higher ratio of essential oils.

Eau de Parfum (EDP) Version:
To dilute: Reduce the amount of perfume base (Extrait) by 20-30% and add high-proof alcohol (around 60-70%) to the desired strength. The final volume of the perfume should still total 30 mL. You may also adjust based on the desired scent intensity.

Oil-based Version:
To make an oil-based perfume: Replace the alcohol with a carrier oil such as jojoba oil, fractionated coconut oil, or grape seed oil. The base formula (Extrait) remains the same, but mix it with the carrier oil in a 1:2 ratio (1 part perfume base, 2 parts carrier oil) for a smooth, oil-based fragrance.
